In this tutorial we will take a look at two spool knitting techniques you can use to make two color, spool knit projects.
Spool knitting is very popular and attractive, mostly because of David Hopper, who inspired the community by showing what can be done by knitting paracord. The series of tutorial featured on this site has been dedicated to systematically cover the technique.
The past tutorials covered:
– how to make a knitting spool
– how to spool knit paracord using two pegs
– how to spool knit using three, four or any higher number of pegs
In this tutorial we round up the series by showing how to spool knit with two colors. This tutorial has been fairly sought after, so I have decided to show you the results of my experiments. Both techniques are easy to do when you grasp the concept, but are very different in look. Try both and see what suits you!
Supplies
To make the best use of this tutorial. I recommend the following
- paracord 550, in two different colors
- a four peg spool knitting tool (one technique will be using two pegs though)
- a loom hook or any other tool you like to use to work the cords with
With those items at hand, it is time to start knitting!
Two color spool knitting technique number one

The first technique I will show you uses four pegs and is basically spool knitting on two pegs, twice!
We start by setting up one color on two pegs and lifting the cord over a peg once. We then set up the other color on the remaining two free pegs and lift the cord once over a peg. We then simply alternate the colors when spool knitting. The tutorial above should prove useful.
Two color spool knitting technique number two
The other technique we can use to spool knit two different colors of cord is done on two pegs. We set up the basic spool knitting pattern, but using two cords. It is better to see the images below for a detailed step by step guide on how to get this going.
There! I hope this tutorial was useful to you! Looking forward to seeing what you make with it!
