How to tie a star knot

In this tutorial I will show you how to tie a star knot.
The star knot is another decorative knot that sometimes intimidates knotters. It looks hard to make and does indeed take a bit of an effort, but I truthfully find it looks harder to make than it actually is.

The knot has a ton of useful applications and can be used in a lanyard, as a zipper pull, as a decoration for a dog leash and has many other useful applications.

I am proud to know how to tie this knot and so, let me show you how to make one yourself!

Items needed

To make this knot I recommend using the following:

Now, let’s get on to the tutorial!

How to make a star knot

A star knot is made by first setting up the outer part by forming four loops. The fifth loop is made when you start to double your star knot cord by following the cord around the knot a second time. When the cord is doubled, all there is, is to tighten it and you are done!

There is also a video tutorial on the knot available on Youtube:

I hope this tutorial got you to the end and you have a beautiful knot in front of you! Till next time,
Mark

  1. I am so happy to have found your website! With the holidays coming up, I made a Christmas tree keychain based off your Dragon fly. I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do the star on top (charm, patch, bead, etc. ) but this is PERFECT! I’ll be sure to post a picture when my keychain is complete!

    Thanks so much Mark!!

  2. I’ve been doing the para cord thing now for a few months I love it I wish I could get more projects. I’ve done stuff from the monkey fist to. Ts to bracelets and more . It’s great and this website is what set it off.
